Reinforced lower link ball CAT 2-3 made of hardened 20MnCr5 steel
This CAT 2-3 lower link ball is designed for combinations where a category 2 ball size is required on the outside and a larger category 3 pin size is needed on the inside. Clean dimensional accuracy is crucial here, as such transition sizes leave little tolerance for worn-out or worn-in contact surfaces.
Thanks to the hardened 20MnCr5 steel, the ball is significantly better protected against material loss than simple, softer versions. The hard surface absorbs point loads on pins and catch hooks more effectively and reduces the risk of pressure marks or flattening becoming noticeable too early.
The reinforced version is especially worthwhile with frequent coupling and uncoupling. The ball remains round and dimensionally accurate for longer, allowing it to sit more cleanly in the receiver and reducing how quickly play develops.
