Hardened lower link ball CAT 3 in reinforced version
With category 3 lower link balls, significantly higher forces act than with smaller three-point categories. That is why the material is especially decisive in this reinforced version: 20MnCr5 is a tough chromium-manganese case-hardening steel that gains a wear-resistant surface through hardening while retaining a load-bearing base.
In practice, this means: the ball withstands the typical loads in the catch hook area better. Point pressure forces, side loading and repeated coupling cause flattening or worn-in contact zones more quickly on softer balls. The hardened version counteracts exactly these wear points.
For the customer, what ultimately matters is not only that the ball fits, but that it retains its fit for as long as possible. Less material loss means less play, a cleaner seat in the catch hook and a longer service life. The electrochemical coating complements the material quality with additional surface protection.
