Reinforced top link ball CAT 4-3 made of hardened 20MnCr5 steel
This CAT 4-3 top link ball is intended for heavy transition connections where a large receiver is used on the outside and a CAT 3 pin size is required on the inside. Exactly in such combinations, high surface pressures often occur on comparatively limited contact zones.
The hardened 20MnCr5 steel offers the decisive advantage here: The surface wears in more slowly, remains more resistant to pressure marks and keeps the inner bore dimensionally accurate for longer. This reduces play formation, especially when the connection regularly works under load.
On the outside, the ball must sit cleanly in the large receiver, while on the inside the pin contact must not wear out. The reinforced version combines both with a wear-resistant surface and load-bearing base material. The electrochemical coating additionally provides surface protection.
